Plenty of Paddling in Ithaca

The Paddlefish spent the weekend rotating and reaching with Tim Schaus. Tim, and his wife Anne Marie, visited Pittsburgh and joined the Paddlefish as a guest coach over a 3 day mini-camp.
The P’fish had their first race of the season on June 21, 2014. The Baltimore Dragon Boat Challenge was full of fun and surprises. Twenty-three paddlers suited up to participate in this race.
A busy Sunday morning in the channel of the Allegheny River at Millvale. For many, the river is a source of exercise and pleasure in our city.
Another wonderful and productive year for the Paddlefish at Space Coast Dragon Boat Camp in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. The weather was cloudy but spirits were sunny as we paddled our way through the canals and waterways of this charming community.
Why are they smiling? Because they are spending time paddling the two (wo)man OC, and not indoors on the erg. Nat and Nat were lucky to get this in because, the following day, the flow was up to over 50 cfs.
….getting in the first water practice before the surge of the river flow rate. The day was Pittsburgh gray but the Paddlefish spirits were sunny as we launched the dragon boat into the 42 degree water. We warmed up quickly and did several race pieces with Coaches Dick and Bob running practice.
Two of the Paddlefish powerhouse women participated in the 2nd Annual Puerto Rico Dragon Boat Festival in Ponce, PR. Natachia DeGenna and Laurie Butler joined 8 of their paddling friends to fill a 10 person dragon boat and “The Speedy Gringas” snagged two gold medals.
Lori SW again hosted the 5th Annual Amazing Italian Potluck Dinner. The event started when we were fortunate to have an energetic University of Pittsburgh PhD student join our club. As you may have guessed, he was from Italy and loved to cook and eat.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Four Paddlefish (and one tough daughter) braved the elements and participated in the annual Pittsburgh Polar Bear Plunge on January 1st, 2014. It was downright chilly with the water temperature at 38° and air temperature of 25°.
